blinkbox teams up with Freak Week for Halloween

blinkbox plans to turn streams into screams with the exclusive sponsorship of award-winning immersive horror fest Freak Week this Halloween.

blinkbox, the home of latest release movies and TV without subscription, has teamed up with Hop Farm to create a live action 4D horror event – and anchor their association with movie experiences.

Designed to merge live theatre with terrifying thrills inspired by blinkbox’s collection of latest release horror movies, the week-long event will include a specially-created blinkbox living room which will be far from relaxing.

Due to the extreme nature of the experience, those prone to claustrophobia, with heart problems or a fear of clowns (Coulrophobia) are advised NOT to buy tickets. Visitors who can’t handle the pressure will be led out by staff after using the escape word ‘blinkbox’.

blinkbox spooksman Ben Ayers said: “At blinkbox, we believe that watching a movie is as much about how you feel as what you see, so this is a great partnership. Halloween is the perfect time to blend immersive drama with movie watching so we’re thrilled to be involved. Being a responsible company we will have staff on standby to ensure that traumatised participants can escape if they panic.”
The blinkbox Freak Week experience will be open to the public from October 25th till the October 30th.

Sorkin’s acclaimed TV series The Newsroom comes to blinkbox

The Newsroom: The Complete First Season will be released to own and watch instantly through blinkbox from 15 October 2012.

blinkbox will be the first place in the UK for HBO fans to buy and own all ten episodes of the outstanding drama 30 days after initial broadcast on Sky Atlantic and months ahead of the DVD and Blu-ray release.

The critically acclaimed, intellectual drama series has seen celebrities taking to Twitter in praise with Justin Timberlake saying: “HBO’s “The Newsroom” is so well crafted… Aaron Sorkin’s characters are smart, neurotic, and so fun to watch. Genius moments.”

The Newsroom asks whether it’s possible to produce a good TV news show and make it popular at the same time. That’s the question facing volatile cable-news anchor Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and the ideological staff that have just been foisted upon him in Season 1 of this HBO drama series from Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network). Overcoming a tumultuous first day together, the acerbic ACN Network anchor, new executive producer MacKenzie (Emily Mortimer), their newsroom staff (John Gallagher Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel), and news-division boss Charlie (Sam Waterston) set out on a patriotic if quixotic mission to ‘do the news well’ in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles, and their own personal entanglements.

Already known as the place to watch the latest releases without subscription, blinkbox offers a broad range of premium HBO series including all four seasons of smash hit supernatural drama True BloodSM and the acclaimed blockbuster mini-series Band of BrothersSM and The PacificSM. As with all blinkbox titles, these HBO shows can be viewed on PC, Mac, Smart devices (TV, Blu-Ray players, Set Top boxes), iPad, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Colin Smith, Director, International Digital Distribution for HBO, said: “We are thrilled to be able to offer The Newsroom to our UK fans familiar with the great work of writer Aaron Sorkin, and to introduce it to a wider audience also. Easily accessible via blinkbox, either by episode or the entire first season, this is another step in our ongoing strategy to make HBO’s innovative, critically acclaimed programming available to all viewers in a variety of formats so they can immerse themselves in their favourite shows whenever, wherever.”
